AMTS01 General Design

AMTS1.0       General Design/Documentation (for all injection molds, fixtures, assembly devices, and gages)

 

1.1  Designer must be familiar with the latest customer and Argo Mold design/build standards.

 

1.2  Full size drawings are preferred. Half size drawings are permissible with Argo Mold’s approval. Dimensions and notes on half size drawings must be clearly legible.

 

1.3  Title block information must be completed at preliminary stage, including sheet description, date and sheet number.

 

1.4  Dates on the sheet must be changed each time drawings are issued with changes or additions. Note: Whenever details have been changed from drawings previously issued-Designer must provide a list of changes or new sets of drawings highlighting changes.

 

1.5  Center lines of mold and machine, body lines, work lines, etc., must be clearly shown on all plan view sections, and detail drawings.

 

1.6  “Top of Mold” and “Operator Side” must be on all sheets where possible.

 

1.7  Section lines must be on ejector and cover plan views. Section lines must be clearly visible and not jump all over the view.

 

1.8  There must be enough full sections, partial sections, and views to clearly show all mold details.

 

1.9  Start dimensions from body lines, datum lines, and/or work lines must appear.

 

1.10  Parts that are tipped and/or rotated must show the point of tip or rotation and the angle dimensions.

 

1.11  Any bad steel conditions (no draft, undercuts, vertical seal off, thin steel, etc.) must be thoroughly discussed at the preliminary design stage.

 

1.12  Maximum thickness of cover and ejector blocks must be shown in appropriate sections and dimensioned.

 

1.13  Are parting line locks adequate? Slides should not be considered as parting line locks.

 

1.14  Pry bar clearance must be shown on all four corners of one half.

 

1.15  Safety straps should be on the sides of mold only. Location must be clear of tie bars to permit removal while in molding machines.

 

1.16  Lift holes must be to Argo Mold standards. There should be two holes per side of each plate. Lift holes should be shown on preliminary drawings.

 

NOTE: Lift holes on top of mold should have phantom lines indicating a large diameter of shoulder on swivel hoist rings to ensure no interference with components extending outside mold face. Sometimes slides and cylinders make it necessary to use stand-off posts with the lifter holes. These posts must be large enough in diameter and length and be recessed into mold approximately 2”, posts are to be attached to mold with a premium grade-threaded rods.

 

1.17  Designs must show pre-load on support pillars. Use .0005” per inch from the edge of parallel to center of a pillar. Pre-load not to exceed .005”.
