Information

AMTS07 Mold Construction 7-40

7.40  Rails or supports are to be .001” higher than the outer housing rails supporting the ejector half.

7.41  The knock-out pads are to be installed on the ejector plate to accept the knock out rods. These pads are to be recessed 1/16” from the platen, protruding through the clamp plate to accept the knock out rods. These pads are to be threaded to accept the knock out rods and keyed into the ejector plate.

7.42  Blind pockets or deep ribs may require passive vents or venting channels into blind areas to assure fills without burning.

7.43  All cavities will have full perimeter vents of a depth and land width appropriate to the material. Vents will have a land length of no more than .100” and a minimum width of .250”.

7.44  Vents will be designed and built to the following design guide lines:

7.44.1  Location and size of air vents must be on mold design. Do not locate vents at random. Part must be reviewed to determine where vents should be located.

7.44.2  Do vents follow Argo Mold standards?

7.44.3  Periphery vents all around part must extend to parting line clearance or edge of mold.

7.44.4  Do vent show on cover or ejector plans?

7.44.5  Does surface data supplied to CNC department have proper clearances on parting lines, slide seal off surfaces, die lock radii, etc.?

7.44.6  Are openings inside part vented? Is pocket or hole required to exhaust air?

7.44.7  Are heavy holes vented?

7.44.8  Have all ribs been reviewed for venting?

7.44.9  Deep ribs might require inserts to allow proper venting at bottom of ribs.

7.44.10  For hard to vent areas porcerax cores and inserts might be be permissible with Argo Mold approval.

7.44.11  Flats on some ejector pins might be required.

7.44.12  Cavity surfaces on slides, lifters, and core pulls should be vented.

7.45  All items considered perishable should be noted as such. Directions in the design should be to provide spares to reduce downtime when the component has worn out.

7.46  The mold will be fitted with pry slots to ease opening the mold with pry bars, if necessary. All plates will have additional pry slots to allow easy separation during maintenance. Minimum 1" long by 5/8" wide.

7.47  The mold's outside edges will be filed or rounded to be free of sharp edges on all sides 45 degree x 1/16" chamfers, or 1/8" wide.
